As time marches on
Before we dive into the underworld of vampires, we thought it might be helpful to review what we're up against when it comes to your skin. As you age, your skin naturally starts to lose its collagen, which is responsible for the elasticity and tone in your tissue. Collagen production wanes with age in both men and women, but it's especially pronounced in women as they pass through perimenopause and menopause.
This leaves your skin without its natural building blocks, so it begins to succumb to the wear and tear over the years, leaving you with an increasingly saggy and wrinkled surface.
On top of this, when your skin begins to lose elasticity, it's unable to hold the thin layer of fat underneath in place, which begins to migrate downward, robbing your face of volume.
The vampire to the rescue
A PRP Facelift and PRP Facial tackles sagging and wrinkling skin from two different angles. First, we go in and inject fillers into your skin to add volume and plumpness to areas that are hollowed out, such as around your cheeks and in the deep lines around either side of your mouth (the nasolabial folds). We can also fill in thin lips, which also erases the tiny vertical lines.
The fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that's naturally found in your body, largely in your joints. This acid promotes moisture and attracts water, giving your skin the added volume.
While the dermal fillers work extremely well on their own, we take the skin rejuvenation one step further by tapping the power from within you, namely your platelets.
Your blood contains four ingredients: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Your platelets are primarily responsible for clotting your blood, but they also contain hundreds of proteins, including growth factors, which help regenerate and rebuild soft tissue.
During your vampire procedure, we remove some of your blood and separate your platelets in a centrifuge. Once we have the concentrate, we mix it back in with your plasma to create platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and inject it into your skin. The PRP goes to work to repair and rebuild your tissue, calling in additional resources, such as increased collagen production, to help out.
Ultimately, a PRP Facelift and PRP Facial gives you the best of both worlds: The dermal fillers provide the immediate effects, while your platelets are working toward a longer-term solution to tired skin. It's for this reason that you should be patient after your procedure, because your optimal results are still several months away; but they're worth the wait.
