Pulsed light is used to deepen your skin to heal the inner layer during an AFT skin tightening treatment. That induces collagen formation, which is essential for a firm, youthful appearance without damaging its surface. Light can also improve the tone and texture of the skin.
IPL therapy (including AFT) can provide a burst of intense high-energy light to the face. Light gets preferentially absorbed by darker areas of the face (such as dark spots, reddening rosacea, and spider veins). The energy of light heats and destroys the pigments or capillaries that cause the blemish. The light's heat will also be absorbed by the skin's uncolored areas to a certain extent, making the skin tight. The heating effect also induces the skin to produce more collagen.
Over time, each treatment will make the skin smoother, more transparent, and younger. ATF processing is particularly good at producing luminescence and even skin tone because it can produce highly consistent energy output and target various discoloration degrees. Purple spots, red spots, light spots, and dark spots can get removed during the treatment, and there is hardly any recovery or downtime.
Preparation for Treatment
At least two weeks before treatment, you should start working hard to protect your skin from sunlight. At least one week before treatment, you should stop taking drugs that make your skin highly sensitive to light, such as St. John's wort. Do not use lotions or creams with alpha-hydroxy acids or retinol to your skin up to 48 hours before you have treatment.
What to Expect
It takes about 30 minutes to have a full facial treatment. Many people feel almost no discomfort during their treatment. If needed, an anesthetic cream may get used to reduce discomfort. After treatment, the patient can immediately resume their regular activities. One or two hours after treatment, the skin may become slightly red. Care should get taken to protect the skin from sunlight several weeks after each treatment. Otherwise, there will be no downtime or recovery period. The skin will not blistering or peeling. It will gradually look better after each treatment.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
Most people need to receive a series of six to eight treatments to achieve the desired results. Usually, treatment is scheduled every two to four weeks to give the skin time to respond to the last treatment.
