What Causes Vaginal Laxity and How Can You Treat It?

Vaginal Laxity

When women think about their health, they rarely take their vaginal health into consideration. It just isn’t something they usually think about unless there is something truly bothering them down there. For many women, their vaginal health only becomes a concern soon after giving birth or following menopause. That’s because those life events often bring about sudden changes to the vagina, including vagina laxity, that is hard to ignore.

Vaginal laxity is when there is a “looseness” felt within the vagina. This can not only cause an uncomfortable feeling in your most intimate area, but it can also result in other side effects that aren’t so pleasing, such as urinary incontinence and sexual dissatisfaction. Vaginal laxity can develop for a few different reasons.

In younger women, vaginal laxity is prevalent following vaginal childbirth. During childbirth, the vaginal tissue and lining are being thinned out and stretched to accommodate the baby's delivery. Unfortunately, the tissue is often overly stretched to the point where it is unable to retract back to its previous shape or size after delivery. This then causes the vaginal canal to develop a looseness because of the weakened vaginal tissue.

When vaginal laxity occurs in older female adults, it is usually due to hormonal fluctuations such as the one that occurs during and after menopause. Hormonal fluctuations can halt collagen production. Collagen is necessary for strong, healthy tissue, whether on your face or in your vaginal area. It is the protein that gives your tissue elasticity and hydration. Once collagen production slows down, your vaginal tissue becomes weakened and lax.

Vaginal laxity can lead to a host of other symptoms. Urinary incontinence can develop due to the bladder losing its support from the front vaginal wall, orgasm can become difficult to achieve due to a loss of friction, thus causing disinterest in sexual intercourse, and vaginal dryness can develop as a result of the loss in hydration.

Fortunately, vaginal laxity and its unfavorable symptoms are not something you must live with. There is a solution – intimate female rejuvenation!

Intimate female rejuvenation is a non-surgical treatment that restores vaginal tightness to reduce symptoms of vaginal laxity and any accompanying side effects. At Avante Laser and MediSpa in Houston and The Woodlands, TX, we offer The Viveve® System to tighten and tone your vaginal tissues.

Using radiofrequency technology, The Viveve® System triggers new collagen growth by penetrating the vaginal tissue within the canal with RF energy via a handheld applicator in the form of heat. The new collagen helps to rebuild the tissue giving it strength and elasticity. No surgery is required, and treatment is completely comfortable. Only one session is needed to achieve full results and a tightened vagina.
